About

Hi! My name is Andrea. I have recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a first class master’s degree in Astrophysics. I graduated and travelled around Southeast Asia, trying to build a business online, and I support myself with the income I earn from online tutoring. I’m also trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my life.

I like a lot of things – reading is a big one. I go through phases of fiction and non-fiction, through obsessions on history periods such as WW2, or obsessions on books about string theory. I like playing chess; I am currently a solid 2000 ELO rated WFM, but this is something I’d like to improve upon. I train a little every day and I want to play more tournaments. I also love dancing – I started salsa and bachata classes back in 2019 and haven’t looked back. It is an awesome way to meet a lot of different people of different ages, cultures and interests, and it is an excellent way to meet a community in a foreign place. I also like health and fitness – going to the gym and being active has been a priority for me for a long time; and whilst I don’t say no to a sweet treat, I also like eating in a way that makes me feel good.

As for the future – I want to build this tutoring business to help the ever-growing population of students doing the International Baccalaureate (IB), which is a demanding high school curriculum consisting of 6 subjects covering a range of disciplines, and the one I did myself. Not only because I know that I can help other people, but also because it will help me develop entrepreneurial, creative and interpersonal skills. And help me generate passive income for the future.

Even though I have taken a break from academia, I believe I would still like a career in science – I’m good at maths, and physics and learning. I am entertaining the idea of becoming an astronaut – sounds far-fetched, but I think even the process of trying to become one would give me some invaluable skills that I could use in any other science career endeavours. Hell, I would learn to fly a plane! Or maybe I’ll just travel more. I don’t know.

This blog aims to document this period in my life, where I feel that I am growing emotionally, intellectually and professionally, and I want to keep track of my interests, my thoughts and my experiences in a range of different subjects. While this is mainly aimed for my own recollection, I am making this public so that maybe others can find inspiration, or value in what I have to say, or at the very least find it interesting in some way. Enjoy!
